Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) provides care across Central Virginia, with locations from Stafford to Petersburg, but our caring arms also extend across the globe.
While living abroad in China, a local Virginia family found themselves returning to the U.S. to receive a higher level of care and to develop a comprehensive plan to better manage their son’s epilepsy (a brain disorder that causes recurring seizures). Enter Dr. David Jaffe, a board certified pediatric neurologist at CHoR.
Dr. Jaffe met with the family and reviewed the child’s electroencephalograms (EEG) that were conducted abroad, adjusted his medications, and developed a plan to monitor his epilepsy from afar so that the family could safely return to their home in China.
Letter of appreciation
CHoR physician-in-chief, Dr. Bruce Rubin, received the following letter of appreciation about the level of care the family received at CHoR.
Dear Dr. Rubin,
A good friend of my family contacted you on behalf of our son. We truly appreciate your interest in our son and we wanted to tell you that we have been amazed at the impressive level of care our son has received from Dr. Jaffe. Dr. Jaffe has spent literally hours with us, looking at all of our son’s EEG’s from Bangkok and helping us to understand the nature of his epilepsy, how to treat it, how to care for him, and even what to do if things go badly in a place that doesn’t have good medical care. We are so thankful that Dr. Jaffe has managed to find a combination of medicines that not only controls his epilepsy but also has minimal side effects (a marked improvement from when we arrived in the United States in April). We are also very happy to know that someone as knowledgeable as yourself has contacts in China where we reside. It is nice to know that we could get good care in-country if we needed it. We feel confident that, with Dr. Jaffe continuing to help monitor our son from afar, we can safely return to our home in China very soon.
We just wanted to express our appreciation for the excellence of care we received at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU and thank you very much for your offer of help.
A thankful family
